Ashley and Alex fell in love with The Barn at Gibbet Hill wedding venue in Groton, MA right the way. There was just something about this venue that felt so right as they mentioned. They looked at others and none of them could compare to the beautiful grassy hill landscape as background and The Barn at Gibbet Hill wedding venue. They love the boho vintage farmhouse vibe. Ashley tried to incorporate green glass and soft romantic whites and dark browns wherever she could for her wedding at The Gibbet Hill.
I have to say that Ashley has really good taste on style. I love her simplicity on style the center piece at reception, and not mentioned what an amazing job she did on her bouquet. Yes! That’s right! She enjoys crafting. It brings her calm and joy. She and her three sisters whom are her entire bridal party made their bouquets in the morning on her wedding day. The bouquets are combination of fresh flowers, artificial flowers and dry flowers. She brought different textures and warm boho colors into the bouquets. Her bridal bouquet was absolutely gorgeous and very photogenic.
This couple met each other in 2007 during a high school house party. And immediately they became best friends! They actually grew up a few blocks away from each other, and went to the same church and the same middle school. But they never met until high school. They then chose to go to the same college and move in together. Ashley and Alex have a happy little family with two cats in a beautiful home they are proud of.
Ashley and Alex think they have a strong, compassionate, blessed life together. They like to hang out with their friends. They also have fun cooking their favorite recipes, cleaning up around the house and yard, and going for walks around the neighborhood. They enjoy puzzles and movies in the winter and the beach and hiking in the warmer months.
A Gibbet Hill Wedding with Many Charming Traditions
Alex loves her unconditionally and Ashely thinks he is the best “cat dad”, the best man to have by her side for life. Alex takes their relationship and marriage seriously. Ashley thinks Alex will make a wonderful father for their future children as well. They both look forward to their happy and wonderful future ahead.
Alex Chose a perfect timing to show his commitment. He proposed the day they moved into their current home. Their priest from their home church married them at little charming stone chapel St. James’ Catholic Church in Our Lady of Grace Parish in Groton, MA.
They have traditions. There are so many elements of their wedding day that I haven’t seen on weddings for a long time. They brought back the guest lineup outside the church, the antique car (her parents are antique lovers) with just married banner and car tin garland. It felt like finally this is how a wedding supposed to be. The guests were cheering while their car was getting away.

We had a perfect overcast day that allow us to capture some wedding portraits with beautiful hill as natural backdrop as sun was going down behind The Barn at Gibbet Hill. Here is a quick tip about wedding photography. You may have a location and background in mind for your portraits on your wedding day. It could be a beautiful nature or certain architecture you want to have as background in your photos. However, the lighting might not work as we have no control over where the sun is positioned at specific direction.
Photography is all about right lighting. If it was a full sunny day, we weren’t be able to have the hill side as background at this Gibbet Hill wedding at all because everyone will be facing the sun directly and will be squinting. So talk to your photographer about photo locations.
