Lakeside Wedding in Alton Bay, NH – A Creative & Romantic Backyard Wedding
Jessica and Ryan had the most romantic and creative lakeside wedding I’ve ever photographed in Alton Bay, NH, New Hampshire this summer. They are such a fun, loving, intellectual couple I’ve never met. The couple reside in North Carolina. They found me on online and reached out while they were doing long distance wedding planning.
Jessie & Ryan’s Love Story
Jessie (from Maine) and Ryan (from NH) met at the University of New Hampshire in 2010 through Alpha Chi Sigma (a co-ed chemistry fraternity that they, their brothers, and many close friends joined). After a year of friendship they decided to give the dating thing a try. Another year later, Jessie followed Ryan to North Carolina where they would both join graduate programs at Duke University (Ryan for molecular biology and neurobiology, PhD granted, Jessie for Cell Biology, PhD expected May 2020). Eight years, a cat, a dog, one (working on two) PhDs, and countless shenanigans later, they finally tied the knot! They are best friends first and do almost everything together.
Jessica is extremely driven bride and never gives up on her goals. She’s smart cookie getting her PhD in Duke. She also loves very deeply for everyone – family, friends, animals, strangers – she just wants everyone to be happy. That’s why Ryan’s so in love with her. Ryan cares so much about the people he loves. He tries to put up a tough exterior, but he is the most thoughtful man Jessica ever met – her Teddy bear. They both enjoy NH Brewery touring, playing with their dog, eating delicious food and boating – a part of reason they chose this lakeside wedding.
Double Rainbow at Lakeside Wedding, NH
The weather on this wedding day was unpredictable. It was sunny, cloudy, raining throughout the whole day. It was beautiful with clear sky when bride and groom were getting ready and went to the dock for their first look. Until the ceremony, I spotted the storm clouds were coming. It got darker and windy. I was crossing my fingers and hoping the rain would be on hold until we finish the ceremony.
We got lucky. It started sprinkling right after the ceremony. However, it was a quick shower and sun broke up the clouds and came back quickly. That was the magical moment – the double rainbow appeared. And it’s my first witness this magnificent and exciting moment. People say it’s a symbol of good luck. No double it is. And it made this wedding extra special.
Family Treasure
Jessica and Ryan had their lakeside wedding at Ryan’s family house. His late paternal grandparents bought the house when they were young and his farther grew up here. They renovated the cottage on the land a few years back, and the grooms maternal grandmother spent her last days there as well. Ryan and his brothers grew up down the street by the lakeside. It couldn’t have been a better choice for them as they are very close to their families. There are so many memories here. And now Jessica and Ryan added even more memories at this family lakeside home. This made their lakeside wedding even more special and sentimental.
They feel so lucky that we are best friends and that their love organically grew from that friendship, nothing was ever forced or awkward. They are each others favorite person.
